Drink up!

We’ve probably all heard the tip that if you want to lose weight… drink more water.  But why?  Why is drinking water beneficial to weight loss?

First off, water is a zero calorie drink that helps fill your stomach which will make you feel less hungry and in turn eat less.  It will also help you lay off the sugary sodas or juices you may be accustomed to drinking instead of water.  Try drinking 16 ounces of water before each meal.  This will also trigger your brain to remember that you’re trying to eat less and to slow down.

Water also helps the body with the metabolism of fat.  One of the most important jobs of the liver is to convert fat into energy and the kidneys job is to get rid of waste products.  If the kidneys don’t get enough water, your liver takes over and starts doing the job of the kidneys and…what happens then?  The liver is not doing its job and your metabolism is jeopardized.  Provide your organs with the water they need so they can do their jobs.

Building muscles will help you lose weight and muscles that get the proper amount of water contract easily and get stronger faster.  Maximize the time and energy you put into your workouts by making sure you’re getting enough water!

If you’re trying to lose weight, your health and appearance is important to you…so remember that water is also important in keeping your skin clear and healthy, helping to renew your natural elasticity.  Nothing will improve the appearance of your skin more than drinking enough water.  Flushing out the toxins and wastes and not allowing them to be trapped underneath the largest organ of the body – your skin – will cause your skin to glow.

Your body is made up of about 70% water, so it only makes sense that keeping hydrated is very important, not only for weight loss but for the well-being of your body.  Drink at least the recommended 64 ounces of water daily and enjoy the benefits of a well hydrated body!
